Wayne F. Schlichter

December 2, 1933 ~ August 31, 2021 (age 87)

Obituary

Wayne Schlichter, born Dec. 2,1933, passed from this earth into the arms of his Savior on Aug. 31, 2021. A man of God, a defender of the faith, he always took the time to encourage others in their walk with Jesus. He led his family every step of the way by his faithful example.

Wayne graduated from Ross High School where he was president of the FFA, the champion ping pong player, and held the high jump record for decades.

He loved his family farm and studied animal husbandry before enlisting in the Marines. Coming home from the service, he met his future bride at the Millville Roller Rink. He always said it was her big blue eyes. With their four children, Wayne and Betty enjoyed farm life in Greensburg, Indiana until the call to the family business won him over, and Wayne became the Director of Personnel at Hamilton Tool Company.

Moving back to Ohio proved to be monumental in his life as his heart was stirred to faith in Christ. There was new purpose in his life and he became a student of God’s word. This led Wayne to Columbia Bible College where he studied to become a pastor. With his heart drawn back home, Wayne and several like-minded families established Ross Bible Chapel, where he served the Lord faithfully for 47 years. Wayne’s family and friends adored him and the impact he had on each life will reach into eternity.

Wayne is survived by his precious wife, Betty Jane Schlichter; four children Denise (Eddie) Wilburn, Becky (Don) Culbertson, Frederick (Karen) Schlichter and Sonja (Scott) Smith; seventeen beloved grandchildren whose spouses he loved dearly; forty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 8th at 10:30 AM at Ross Bible Chapel, 2846 Hamilton Cleves Rd., until time of funeral service at 12:00 PM, followed by graveside service at Rose Hill Burial Park. Luncheon to follow, at Colligan Lodge, Veterans Park, 20 New London Rd.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Ross Bible Chapel, PO Box 563 Ross, Ohio 45061, and will be gifted to missionaries who faithfully serve the Lord both locally and abroad.

Thank you to the Paul R. Young Funeral Home for your assistance in this difficult time.
