Tom Wissing, 82, of Reily Twp., died Dec. 7 with his family by his side.
An aquatic ecologist who taught at Miami University for more than 30 years and was editor of several scientific journals, he always maintained students were the best part of the job.
He enjoyed friends and family, reading, fishing, and single-malt Scotch.
For more than four decades one of the highlights of his year was the annual trek with long-time friends to Lake Windigoostigwan in Ontario for the opening of walleye season.
Tom was active in the Oxford area community, helping to coach Talawanda Bantam Football in the 1980s and serving on the board of directors of United Way and Three Valley Conservation Trust.
He is survived by Holly, his wife of 53 years; daughter and son-in-law Katie and Chip Taunt and grandsons C.J., Drew, and Evan, Lansing, MI; sisters Colette Stoll and Sue Madden, both of Brookfield, WI; brother- and sister-in-law Doug and Anne Dunlop, Mequon, WI; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be for family only.
Memorial donations may be sent to Three Valley Conservation Trust, 5995 Fairfield Road 3B, Oxford, OH 45056.
