Steve was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jean (nee Welemirrow) and Brooks Hawkins. He attended and graduated from Roger Bacon High School, establishing a longstanding tradition for the Hawkins family. He married Connie Read, his high school sweetheart, in 1986 and they raised four children together.
A beloved basketball coach for many years, Steve was a fan of all the local Cincinnati sports teams. He also loved music and playing the bass guitar. More than anything, though, Steve loved his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Steve is the beloved husband of Connie Hawkins; devoted father of Brandon (Christina Mendiola) Hawkins, Natalie Hawkins, Ally (David) Hebeler and Olivia Hawkins; treasured grandfather of Elijah Hawkins, Jonah Hawkins, Brooks Hebeler and Blaire Hebeler; dear brother of Dan (Claudia) Hawkins and Jenny Hoeh; and also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a bright and shining light in the life of all who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
A visitation for Steve will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Mt. Healthy, 5-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Our Lady of the Rosary in Greenhills at 11 am.
