Shirley Schreiner Obituary

Shirley A. Schreiner (nee King), 76, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, May 3, 2020. Shirley was born in Harlan, KY along with her older sister, closest companion and best friend, Gail. She and her family lived in Corbin, KY and moved to Norwood, OH where she attended Norwood High School and graduated from Mt. Healthy High School in 1962.

She married Leland Butler in 1962 and added two greatly loved children to their family, Jeff & Kathy. In 1971 she married Donald Giltner and they worked hard to beautifully blend two families as she added four more beloved children to her life, Michael, Mindy, Paul ‘Dusty’ and Jennifer. Shirley was a loving mother and housewife. She and her family enjoyed many years gathering together as a family and with many friends in their home and around their swimming pool in the backyard. Some of her fondest memories are of their many vacations spent in Myrtle Beach, SC and taking her mother on a cruise to the Bahamas in 2005.

Shirley enjoyed her many years working for Hebrew Union College in the 1980’s, 90’s and early 2000’s where she made many lifelong friends.

Shirley was a doting grandmother and a special aunt to her nephews and nieces, as well as a loving great-aunt.

Shirley married Daniel Schreiner in 2000 and she gladly added two adult children, James and John, to her growing family.

Shirley loved life and the many joys of it; parties, jitterbugging, music, a good joke, laughing and time spent with family and friends. She was well known for her beautiful mums in her backyard as well as bringing ‘dead’ plants back to life.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but we are also rejoicing with her as she stands in the Presence of the One she loved the most and greets her long-awaited parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, daughter and so many others that have gone on before her.

Shirley was beloved by her husband, Daniel Schreiner, her sister and brother-in-law, Gail & Clyde Richardson, her sisters Belinda King , Becky Gowan, Loretta Sasser & Gigi Martin and her brother, Gary King, sister-in-law Susan Lindsey, her children, Mindy Slabach, Paul “Dusty” (Donna) Giltner, Jeff Butler, Kathy (Jon) Reese, by her grandchildren, Clifford Sharp, Rachel & Sarah Giltner, Brittany, Ashley & Jessica Butler and Ian Reese, by her great-grandchildren Preston & Mila, her nephews and nieces Mike (Sharon) Richardson, Gary (Kim) Richardson and Linda (Mark) Vulcano, and by her great-nieces and nephews, Haley & Kelsey Richardson, Nicholas & Tyler Richardson and Danielle & Jaclyn Vulcano. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jonathan & Charlotte Slabach. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray King and Elizabeth & Jim Myers, by her sister, Carol Brown, her daughter, Jennifer Sue Muse and her son Michael Giltner. Shirley will be remembered by her love of life, laughter, her vibrant personality, and her genuine care of others.

A private service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020. Flowers may be sent to her celebration of life service, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in her name.
