Sandra Marcheta Belcher Obituary

          Sandra Marcheta Belcher

Sandra Marcheta Belcher was born June 5th, 1942, in Crumpler, West Virginia. She was the youngest of 10 children born to John M. Belcher and Lillie Mae Saunders Belcher.

Sandra graduated from Elkhorn High School in Upland where her father was the principal and Sandra was named “Miss Elkhorn High”.  After graduating in 1960, she continued her education at Bluefield State College where she graduated in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Physical Science. While at Bluefield State, she was awarded the title of “Miss Bluefield State”.

After graduation, she was invited by her aunt Lerah Saunders (deceased) to come to Philadelphia, PA to live with her while she explored employment opportunities. For over 20 years, Sandra worked in Clinical Microbiology at Allegheny Hospital – Medical College of PA.

Sandra left Allegheny Hospital and spent several years taking care of her ailing mother. She was always a loving and caring person who cherished her roots in family and in Christianity.

~~Matthew 5:8      “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

Sandra was later hired at Temple University as a laboratory technician.  Over the years, she held various positions at Temple until her retirement.

Sandra enjoyed reading, puzzles, word games, and anything to challenge the mind.  She loved classical music.

During her illness, she relocated to Ohio to be closer to her siblings. Until her death on May 31, 2022, she remained in the care of her brother Lorenzo B. Belcher in Mount Healthy, Ohio.
~~2 Corinthians 5:8

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.  Though Sandra is absent in body, we are confident she is in the presence of the
Lord.

To cherish precious memories of Sandra are brothers Dr. Milton Belcher, Dr. James Belcher, Shirley Belcher, and Lorenzo Belcher as well as special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. John M. and Lillie M. Belcher; three brothers, Samuel, William, and Bobby Belcher; and two sisters, Eloise Powell and Myrtle Johnson.

A Memorial Service will be held in Philadelphia at a later date.  An announcement will be made. Online condolences can be made at www.paulyoungfuneralhome.com . Paul R. Young Funeral Home (Mt. Healthy, OH) assisting the family.
