Rolf Frederik Brunckhorst was born in San Francisco, California to Sylvia (nee Ashton) and Rolf Brunckhorst on January 2, 1954. He was raised in California and graduated from the UCLA School of Medicine. During his residency, he met and married Lisa, the love of his life, in 1983. He and Lisa made their home in Oxford and raised their three sons. Rolf faithfully served the Oxford community as a General Surgeon for thirty-four years.
Ever since he was young, Rolf had a love for flying. He earned his pilot's license at a very early age and never lost the passion. He especially loved doing airshows in his T-33. He had even begun work on building his own acrobatic airplane, a lifelong passion that his boys will complete in his honor. He and the boys also built a GT40 race car together. Rolf was very active and also very fond of water adventures; he was a Master scuba diver and loved to go sailing with his boys in the Caribbean islands each summer.
Rolf passed away on February 1, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife Lisa (nee Cleaver) Brunckhorst; his cherished sons Rolf (Linnea) Brunckhorst of Charleston, Erik (Mei-Ling) Brunckhorst of Columbus, and Christian (Megan) Brunckhorst of Charleston; his dear grandchildren Javi, Emilio and Baby Girl Brunckhorst arriving soon; his loving brothers William (Victoria) Ramos, Robert (Carmen) Ramos, and Mark (Kate) Brunckhorst; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
We are sure Rolf is up there telling T-33 stories to his granddaughter Ivy Linnea when he isn’t looking for mischief with his best friend Jack Cohen.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital Foundation with “oncology” in the memo line. A service will be held in July.
