CROMER, Rodger Alan, age 86 of Oxford, Ohio passed away peacefully Friday, September 23, 2022 at Woodland Country Manor. Rodger was born April 30, 1936, in Lakewood, Ohio, the son of Bowen and Lucy (nee: Roofe) Cromer. After serving his country proudly in the United States Navy, he attended Ohio University and later Miami University where he earned his Master’s degree. Rodger went to work for Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1961 where he served for 37 years as golf coach, head of intramural sports, and played and taught racquetball until 1995, before his retirement in 2002. During his tenure at Miami, Rodger guided the golf team to 11 MAC titles and was voted Coach of the Year 8 times. He also had the distinction of coaching two winning Junior USA World Golf Teams in Japan in 1993 and 1997. Rodger was awarded the Miami Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990, the Butler County Hall of Fame in 1994, the National Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995, the Miami Cradle of Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame in 2008. Rodger was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, his brother, and his daughter Vicki Lange. He leaves behind his loving wife Janet Cromer of Oxford, Ohio, his son Scott (Dana) Cromer of Portland, Oregon, his son-in-law John Lange of John’s Creek, Georgia, and his grandchildren Emma Lange, Jack Lange, and Madeline Cromer. A Celebration of Life for Rodger is being planned for a later date.
