Robert Goss Hofmann of Oxford passed into heaven September 28, 2024 after suffering a heart attack at home. He was 68.
Robert was born December 23, 1955 to the late Harold Phillip and Dorothy Jean Hofmann, also of Oxford. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Meredith Puff Hofmann, also called Merry, and two children, Sargeant Igor Hofmann, stationed in the U.S. army in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Ava (Robin) Hofmann, of Buffalo, New York. He is also survived by his sister Beth Hofmann of Middletown, sister-in-law Melody Hofmann of Union, Kentucky, brother- and sister-in law Larry Werbil and Janelle Puff, nieces Arianne and Monica Werbil, and great nephew and niece, Austin and Rebecca Maxwell, all of Indianapolis. Three brothers preceded him to heaven, Douglas, Harold, and Norman Hofmann, as well as his in-laws, Harold and Edith Puff.
Robert grew up in Oxford as his father was a well known dentist in town. He graduated from Talawanda in 1974. Robert graduated from Miami in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in history. He later earned a Master's of Arts in Teaching and had several jobs teaching social studies. In 2022, Robert retired from a 25-year career teaching GED to residents of the Talbert House Community Correctional Center in Lebanon.
Robert was gentle, sensitive and loving to everyone he met. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and loved attending church services and activities over his entire life. He was highly creative with many eclectic interests including science fiction, pets, writing, art, computer games, and gardening. He had about 75 house plants, which he loved caring for and grew several to full size trees. He grew a full plumeria tree from a twig brought from Hawaii, and nurtured a snake plant still growing since 1975.
Most of all he loved spending time with his wife Merry, a life- long friend who became the love of his life. He followed her to Hawaii to pursue her in 1991, and they were married January 2, 1993 in Oxford. They moved back to raise their family in Oxford after a few years in Hawaii and Lindale, Texas.
Robert also was devoted to his dogs, Copper, Dusty, and Penny. In his younger years he enjoyed swimming and bike riding, but developed health conditions over the years that limited him. We are thankful he is now free of pain and enjoying unlimited activities in the next life.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. with celebration of life Tuesday, October 15 at 11 a.m., both at the Paul Young Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike in Oxford. Burial follows at the Oxford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oxford Vineyard Church, 4398 Oxford-Reily Road, Oxford, Ohio 45056.
