Richard Lynn Jent, of Pickerington, Ohio, born on July 15, 1945 to Earl and Dorothy Jent in Franklin, Kentucky, passed away on May 27, 2024. He lived a life of service to Our Lord, his country, and others.
Most recently he was a deacon at Violet Baptist Church, and previously at the First Baptist Church of Dent. He was a member of the Masonic Temple, Scottish Rite, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Richard served in the US Army with the First Cavalry Division in Vietnam, and earned the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
With his Doctorate of Education from the University of Cincinnati, he worked for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections for 35 years, as well as Professor Adjunct for the University of Cincinnati and Ohio University.
He was a lifelong University of Kentucky basketball and NY Yankees baseball fan.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Lucille (Cole); son Joshua (Sara Faller); grandson Chandler; and loving cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dorothy.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Friday, May 31 at Violet Baptist Church, 8345 Blacklick-Eastern Rd NW, Pickerington, OH 43147. A service will follow at the church at 11:00 am.
A second viewing will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Saturday, June 1, at Arlington Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 2145 Compton Road Mount Healthy, Ohio 45231. Interment with miliary rites to follow the visitation.
