Richard “Dick” H. Quay (84), born April 27, 1940, in Washington, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 18, 2024 in Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio surrounded by his family. Richard is survived by Becky, his wife of sixty years, and children, Maria (Steve) Brossart, William (Sarah) Quay, and Daniel (Marie) Quay. He was the proud grandfather of Sarah, Christopher, Jacob, Patrick (Emily), Anthony, Grace, and Monica and proud great grandfather of Rose. Richard is also survived by his sister Charlotte (Billie) Ritter Thompson of Eight Four, Pennsylvania, nieces Michelle, Elizabeth, Clarissa, and nephew Casey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Quay and Jane Romaine Tate Ritter.
Richard married Rebecca Berry on June 8th 1963 in Eighty-Four, PA and they were happily married for sixty years.
Richard graduated in 1958 from Trinity High School in Washington, Pennsylvania, and then attended Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, where he earned a BA in Psychology in 1963. He received an MS of Science in Education degree from the University of Southern California in 1969 and in 1970 he received an MS in Library Science from University of Pittsburgh.
Richard was an officer in the Air Force for 6 ½ years, living in Rapid City, South Dakota, Greenville, Mississippi, Riverside, California & ending his military career as a Captain in Wiesbaden, Germany.
He & his family moved to Oxford, Ohio in 1970, where he accepted the position of Social Sciences & Humanities Librarian in King Library at Miami University. He retired in 1998.
Some of the things he enjoyed in life were Bluegrass music, traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach and Berlin, Ohio. He loved collecting and reading books, and spending time with his family. In the past, Richard served on the Board of Deacons in the Oxford Presbyterian Church.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 1 at the Oxford Presbyterian Church at 101 North Main Street, Oxford, Ohio at 11 a.m., followed by military honors in the church courtyard. After that, all are invited to a reception at the Seminary Church on the corner of Church and Poplar.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Richard’s memory may be made to, Doctors Without Borders, Oxford Presbyterian Church or to the donor’s charity of choice.
