Patsy E. Koch (nee Taylor) Obituary

Patsy E. Koch (nee Taylor), 91, passed away on March 21, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Patsy was the beloved wife of the late Charles F. Koch for 44 years. Devoted mother of Ginny (Tony) Schmitz, Shirley (Don) Hicks, and Nancy (Todd Beismann) Koch. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by her sister, the late Henrietta Hipple.

When Patsy married Charles, soon thereafter they began the operation of their business, namely growing fine Bibb lettuce and vine-ripened tomatoes in their (backyard) acre-and-a-half of greenhouses. With the help from the late Bill Dearwester and many family members and friends, this business thrived in “Frog Town” for over forty years.

Besides working “outside”, Patsy took great care of the inside of her house and still found the time to do the bookkeeping for the business. In other words, she did it all! She was a particularly great cook, known for her roast beef, German potato salad, homemade applesauce and potato pancakes.

Patsy was a big sports fan, following UC Bearcats basketball, the Cincinnati Bengals and FC Cincinnati. She loved all dogs, (Nancy’s) cats, giraffes and yard birds, especially the American Goldfinch. Her varied and colorful flower garden at her home in Northside was admirable, and she always had beautiful houseplants in her home. Patsy loved sunsets and collecting seashells at Sanibel Island. Traveling was a big part of her life, starting with the regular family trips to Gatlinburg and her trip with Charles to Hawaii. In her retired years, she had more time to travel and particularly enjoyed her trip to Alaska with Nancy as well as visiting many places all over the United States, from west to east, from north to south. Patsy loved singing (with the church choir) and whistling (at home), and she and Charles enjoyed dancing together and listening to music whenever the opportunity arose. In her latter years, you could find her baking (at times with Shirley), looking for a new recipe, reading an Amish book, or watching the birds at the feeder and bird bath.

Most importantly, throughout her life, Patsy cherished her family and loved them purposefully. She was always there for her three girls and for her grandchildren. If she was needed, she never hesitated to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She especially loved greeting a new great (or great-great) grandchild. She delighted in her sons-in-law as well, always happy to see them, knowing that they would take good care of her girls when she no longer could.

Charles never met a stranger and Patsy truly loved all people, no matter their differences. Now they are together in peace, forever appreciated and loved!
