Norma Jane Smith

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Norma Smith, age 89, who left us peacefully on September 7, 2025, at her home in Fort Myers, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robin Smith, grandchild Jennifer Amiano, great grandchild Brooks Zimmerman, and sister Joanne Bruns. Survived by children, Cathy (Greg) Goold, Judy Amiano (Bob) Zasa, Dale (Karen) Smith, Darrell (Mary) Smith and Jeff Smith; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; her sister, Joyce Matthews and many dear friends as her kind spirit touched everyone around her. 

Norma and Robin moved to Florida many years ago, where they embraced the sunshine and lifestyle of the state she loved so dearly. Still, Oxford, Ohio always remained “home” in their hearts. Though distance separated her from her children, Norma cherished every moment she spent with her family. 

Norma found joy in simple pleasures. For many years, she tended to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a master at preserving the fruits of her labor, whether freezing corn, canning beans or preparing jars of tomatoes for the winter months. She had a love for playing cards and games, always with a competitive spirit and a twinkle in her eye. She loved to “win”. She also enjoyed dining out and was a regular at local restaurants, where she especially enjoyed good seafood. One of her signature joys was shopping—where she had an unmatched gift for finding bargains or splurging on something just right, particularly white pants.

Above all, Norma will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle nature and the way her presence enriched the lives of everyone around her.

A visitation will take place at Paul R Young Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike, Oxford, Ohio 45056 on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 11:00am-1:00pm with a funeral service to follow at 1:00pm. Burial will take place at College Corner Cemetery.
