Mary Kate Buttery, age 88, peacefully passed away on September 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family in her home. She was born on July 16, 1937, in St. Charles, Virginia, to the late Cecil E. Herron and Condalee Beiser (Estep). For 53 years, she dedicated herself to her work as a bookkeeper at College Corner Implement, finding fulfillment in her career while cherishing the moments spent with her beloved family and friends. Mary Kate had a passion for all things that sparkled and was known for her vibrant and spirited personality that touched everyone she met. She leaves behind her devoted children: Pamela Mundy, Penny (Steven) Mahlerwein, and John (Kathleen) Buttery. Her legacy will continue through her grandchildren: William (Chelsea) Mundy, Robert Mundy, Thomas (Sue) Mahlerwein, Benjamin Mahlerwein, Katrina (Andrew) Kaucher, Jeremy Crank, and Josh (Melody) Hapner; as well as her 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Mary Kate is also survived by her siblings: Josephine Jarrett, Cecil Fay Brock, and Vertus Herron; her brother-in-law, Tony (Joyce) Buttery; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Robert Buttery; her parents; her granddaughter Nikki Hapner; and two brothers, George Herron and Allen Herron.
In honor of Mary Kate's life, a visitation will take place at Paul R Young Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike, Oxford, Ohio on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 11:00am-1:00pm with a funeral service to follow at 1:00pm.
