Mary Louise Muckler, age 98, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 23, 2025, at the Knolls of Oxford, surrounded by the love and presence of her family. Mary was born on November 2, 1927, in Jacksonville, Illinois, to the late Roy and Clara (Brockhouse) VanGundy. She carried the values they instilled in her throughout a long and meaningful life—one rooted in kindness, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Mary attended Valparaiso University and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Oxford, Mary lived her faith through quiet generosity and the gentle way she cared for others. Mary is reunited in peace with her beloved husband of 71 years, Robert Muckler, whose partnership and devotion shaped the beautiful life they shared. She found joy in many things: a good game of Bridge, the adventure of travel, the comfort of cooking for family, and the simple pleasure of time spent on the golf course. But nothing brought her more fulfillment than her family, who were always at the heart of her life. Mary is survived by her children Stephen (Sandy) Muckler, David (Diane) Muckler, Cathy (Michael) McVey, Nancy (Dan) Wright; grandchildren Maren (Brendan) Dagg, Logan (Fernanda Oliveira Aguiar) Muckler, Samuel (Olivia) McVey, Nora McVey; great grandchildren Killian Dagg, Neave Dagg and Alaina McVey. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Robert Muckler; along with her parents and brother Roy VanGundy.
Private services will be held under the care of Paul R. Young Funeral Home, Oxford. Friends and family are invited to share memories and condolences at paulyoungfuneralhome.com.
