Marvin Dean Grooms born March 1, 1942, died December 12, 2024
Marvin grew up on the east side of Cincinnati. He was active in Boy Scouts from 6th grade through 12th grade. He graduated from Withrow High School, Cincinnati Bible Seminary earning a Bachelor degree. Later in life he also earned two Master’s degrees from there: Master’s of Bible Arts and Master’s of Theology. He met then married Linda Ward at Cincinnati Bible Seminary. They joined African Christian Mission in 1965 and spent one year in Brussels, Belgium for French Language Study and a course in Tropical Medicine, proceeded to Nairobi, Kenya for six months of Swahili language study. Next they began serving as missionaries in Bukavu, Kivu Provence, Democratic Republic of Congo. Marvin taught daily in the Bible Institute, preparing young men for Bible Ministry, preached in and visited many churches on the weekend, mentored and encouraged many young men in their work. He prepared much study material and translated from English to Swahili study aids for his students. He was involved in building dispensaries, churches and schools. He also maintained his own vehicles. Marvin served in Congo for 25 years, then returned to live in the USA. He was director of Mission Resource Center for eight years, then worked at the IRS for 12 years as a small business consultant. He attended Northern Hills Christian Church for 44 years where he served as Elder, teacher and occasional preaching. Marvin enjoyed painting, making birdhouses, and kept an aquarium and loved getting together with the family. He enjoyed studying history, reading, music and singing. Marvin is the father of four children, Mark, Rachel, Joelle, Miriam. The grandfather of Daniel, Melanie, and Renee. The great grandfather of Ada and Aston. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Northern Hills Christian Church (9470 Winton Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45231) from 10 - 11AM. A memorial service will immediately follow.
