Kathryn Wiley Obituary

Kathryn Young Wiley of Oxford, passed away February 8, 2025 at age 74. She was born on February 3, 1951, the daughter of Roy and Ruthann (nee Charles) Young of Oxford. Kathy graduated from Talawanda High School in 1969 and was a 1973 graduate of Denison University. After spending a year in Boston, she returned to Oxford in 1974 to take a position in University Advancement at Miami University. She spent over 31 years of service at Miami, retiring in 2005, and was especially proud to receive the "Honorary Alumnus" award for her service to Miami and its Alumni Association.

Kathy and Ronald L. Wiley, professor of physiology at Miami, were married on August 15, 1981 and enjoyed 43 wonderful years together traveling, gardening, in retirement winters in Arizona, and spending time with family and friends.

Kathy was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, serving many years as an advisor to the Miami chapter, PEO women's philanthropic organization, and Daughters of the American Revolutions (DAR). In retirement, Kathy served on the Oxford Cemetery Board and many years as an Auxiliary Board member and volunteer at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed reading a good book, a glass of wine, lunch with friends, walks on campus, and rides in the countryside.

Kathy is remembered with love by her stepson Matt and grandchildren Linda Lea and Tyler; brother-in-law Roger (the late Joanie) Wiley, three nieces, four nephews, and the two sons of her dearest friend Jenny (the late Bill) who passed away too soon - Jeff (Stephanie) Lancaster and Todd (Stephanie) Lancaster and their sons Kyle and Dylan. She is also survived by her aunt Mary Ellen and numerous cousins, including Patty Young Steffen of Indianapolis who grew up next door to Kathy. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, dear friends Jenny and Bill Lancaster, aunts Norma Jean and Ginny, daughter-in-law Laura Wiley, brother Roy Young, and beloved husband Ron Wiley.

Private family interment will be held at the Darrtown Cemetery, Darrtown, Ohio. An informal family gathering for family and friends to celebrate her life will be held at a later date at The Knolls of Oxford. Memorial donations may be made to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital Trust or Oxford Community Foundation in support of the Oxford Lane Library or Oxford Senior Citizens Center.
