Joseph L. Statum went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 5, 2025. Born on September 14, 1937 in Petersburg, West Virginia to Rev. Howard D. and Carella P. (nee Jackson) Statum.
Joe was a longtime Oxford resident and charter member of the Oxford Church of God. He proudly served in the United States Army and continued to serve his community for the rest of his career.
Joe was a graduate of Miami University and received his MPA from the University of Dayton. He served as Chief of Police for the City of Oxford, Ohio from September 1968 to July 1989. Joe was a graduate of the FBI National Academy in 1972. He was a life member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, the Butler County Association of Chiefs of Police, and the FBI National Academy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his daughter Mitzie Dianne Statum, and his beloved wife Alma (nee Back) Statum. He leaves his loving son Joseph Statum; four grandchildren Cody, Micayla, Tyler and Caytlin; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Joe will be held at AP (Ambassadors' Pointe) Church in Oxford on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 10 am until time of service at 11 am. Those wishing to make a contribution in Joe's name may do so to AP Church 5450 College Corner Pike Oxford, OH 45056.
