John "Jack" W Beaton

John William Beaton, known to all as Jack, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in Oxford, Ohio at age 89. He was born to James Harry and Ola Beaton on September 3, 1928 in Hamilton, Ohio. On February 21, 1948, he married Marilyn Caldwell, his beloved wife of 59 years.

Jack was well-known as a lifetime member of the Oxford community. He graduated from Miami University and served in the United States Navy Reserves. Jack was the second-generation owner of Beaton Insurance Agency until 1991 when his son Jim became owner. He continued working with the agency until 2008. He was passionate about serving the Oxford community through his involvement in various organizations over the years. Jack enjoyed traveling, boating, reading, golf, wildlife, sharing coffee with friends, and spending time with his family.

His family will always remember his stories, sense of humor, summers on the boat he and Marilyn kept on the Ohio River, and his love for his grandchildren and great grandchild.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn in 2007, his son, Jim in 2003, and infant son Thomas. Jack is survived by his sister, Carolyn Simpson; daughter, Kathy Hucke and husband Mark; daughter-in-law Beth Beaton; grandchildren, Amy Kearns and husband Ryan, Betsy Beaton, Erik Hucke and Kelly Rice, Sara Turner and husband Josh; great grandson, Wyatt James Turner; and nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held later in May. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jim Beaton Memorial Scholarship via the Oxford Community Foundation (oxfordfdn.org) or Hospice of Cincinnati (hospiceofcincinnati.org).
