John A. "Jack" Dutra, age 85, of Oxford, Ohio, passed away on June 22, 2025, at McCullough Hyde Hospital. Jack was born on February 8, 1940, in Fall River, Massachusetts, to the late John J. and Maybelle (Stevens) Dutra. He was not only a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, but also a dedicated professor at Miami University, where he spent over 40 years inspiring his students. A devoted member of the American Classical League, Jack served as Treasurer and Director of Teaching Materials and the Resource Center for over 50 years, embodying his passion for education throughout his life. He had a zest for life, particularly enjoying travel and unforgettable cruises, which brought him much joy. Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Geri Dutra, along with his children: Michael (Carole) Dutra of Lake Balboa, CA, Daniel (Mindy) Dutra of Bloomington, IN, Paul Dutra of Cincinnati, OH, and John (Stachia) Dutra of Georgetown, KY. He will be deeply missed by his four grandchildren Lindsay (Ashton) Sharp, Ayden Dutra, Abigail (Trevor) Blair, and Courtney Dutra. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Sharon Dutra, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends who held him dear. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother Paul Dutra and sister Margaret Bazinet. A memorial gathering in his honor will be held at St. Mary Catholic Parish, located at 111 E. High Street, Oxford, Ohio, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 11:00AM to 11:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM. An inurnment will take place at Oxford Cemetery, Miami Section. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation to honor Jack's memory.
