Ernest "Ernie" W. Nordquist Obituary

Finneytown - Ernest “Ernie” W. Nordquist, 95, died Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Hospice of Cincinnati from complications related to his advanced age. After living a very full life, Ernie died peacefully in the care of hospice and his children.

He leaves his four children - son Dave and wife Diane, son Craig and wife Pam, son Rich and wife Yvette and daughter Marge, three grandchildren - Tim, Christy and Andy along with 6 great grandchildren - Emma, Joshua, Daniel, Isaiah, Kiah and Eliza.

Ernie was preceded in death by his spouse, Helen in 2013.

Born in Chicago, Illinois May 27, 1925 from Swedish immigrants, he graduated from high school before serving during WWII in the 71st Infantry, part of General Patton’s Third Army.  Ernie served with distinction in combat, helping to liberate a Nazi labor camp, in the process earning a Bronze Star.

After the war and graduating from Illinois Tech in Chicago as a Civil Engineer, Ernie joined Procter and Gamble, for which he worked 37 years and married for 62 years the love of his life, Helen Mae Bergwin.

Moving with P&G to Cincinnati in 1954, Ernie quickly joined Faith Lutheran Church, serving in a variety of roles until his death.  He raised his family with hard work and sacrifice, as he did in every aspect of his life.  Always recruited to lead, Ernie served for years in both the Boy Scouts of America and Scandinavian Society.

When at last retiring from a respected career with P&G in 1987, he promptly went to work for SCORE, (Service Corps of Retired Executives) helping young entrepreneurs establish new companies.  Without pay, Ernie served with SCORE for 31 years, finally retiring at age 93 as his health started to wane.

Long known for his love for the Lord Jesus Christ and having a strong faith in his salvation, Ernie leaves his family and friends who are honored to have known and loved a man who truly had a life worth living.
