Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Susor Vanatsky Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Susor Vanatsky was born on July 20, 1940 to Steve and Helen Susor in Youngstown, Ohio. She has two sisters Helen (deceased at birth) and Beverly Muntean of Columbus, Ohio. Betty cultivated a love for Math and Science that led her to starting her studies at Youngstown State University in 1958. She met her husband Ronald J. Vanatsky at an end of the season party for the City of Youngstown Parks and Rec employees and they married August 26, 1961. They then moved to Dayton, Ohio where she continued her studies at the University of Dayton and they had their first son, Richard Mark, born October 1, 1962.

Betty later graduated from UD in the spring of 1963 with a B.S. in Education with teaching fields in Mathematics and Social Science. While she was raising her sons she continued her education (Who said a woman can’t do it all?). Robert William was born June 12, 1964, James Matthew on March 19, 1966 and Michael Alan on June 16, 1967. Betty was very intelligent and her coursework after she graduated from UD included Statistics, Calculus, Economics, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Business Law, and computer languages FORTRAN and COBOL. She worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton from 1986-1995 in the Material Systems Group Headquarters as a Programmer Analyst from 1986-1995. She was also employed by CDO Technologies from 1995-2000.

Betty was particularly talented as an artist as she painted and did ceramics. She loved plants and flowers around the yard. She liked to cook and had a generous heart. Her faith was strong and served in leadership positions in her church in Beavercreek and with the Butler County Democratic Party. She was a huge fan of National Geographic, The Carol Burnett Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show, M.A.S.H., 60 Minutes and PBS. Betty also looked forward to family reunions and holiday gatherings and bragged to many about her children, grandchildren and great-grand children. We miss you already Betty!
