He graduated from Leighton (AL) Training School and moved to Oxford in 1953. He married the love of his life, Martha Sue Davidson on his birthday, July 20, 1957. To their union, their beloved daughter Vanessa was born.

Eldred proudly served in the United States Army where he attained the rank of Corporal. Following an honorable discharge, he worked at Armco Steel as a foreman from 1964 to 1992.
