Edward A. Grannen Jr., 91, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on August 13, 2025. He was born on September 6, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Edward and Mary (Disser) Grannen.
Ed grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. He met Phyllis Zepf at a high school St. Patrick's Day Dance blind date in 1953. After they married and he earned his PhD in Chemistry, his career took them from the East Coast to the West Coast and finally back to their home in Cincinnati in 1976.
Besides immersing himself in a good novel from the public library, Ed enjoyed vegetable gardening, coaching Little League baseball, golfing, volunteering, and breakfasts at The Original Pancake House. But most of all, he loved to plan trips and adventure with Phyllis to many memorable destinations across the country.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Phyllis (Zepf) Grannen, children Mark Grannen, Gregory (Maria Elena) Grannen, Mary (Jeffrey) Koehlke, Kevin Grannen, and Michael Grannen, sister Nancy Driesbach, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Grannen, daughter Barbara (Byron) McGuire, son Thomas Grannen, son Kevin's wife Luyu Ding, and siblings James Grannen, Joseph Grannen, Ann Geers, Patricia Jacobs, and Mary Grannen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 29, 2025, at 10 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 12191 Mill Road, Cincinnati, OH 45240. Ed will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
