Dorothy Bucker Obituary

Dorothy "Nanny" Bucker, 86, of Cincinnati, Ohio, peacefully departed from this world on May 22, 2024.

Born in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England, Dorothy embarked on a remarkable journey that led her across the world touching countless hearts along the way. She ventured to the United States in 1961, following her heart after joining hands in marriage with her beloved husband, Ed. Their love story began on a military base in Germany, where Ed served in the United States Air Force and Dorothy worked as a secretary in the Royal Air Force. They married 3 times, once in a church in Germany, once for the British Government, and for the third time for the American Government.

Dorothy's legacy extends beyond borders and generations, as she became an integral part of Mount Healthy School's former Frost Elementary. For four decades, from 1968 until her well-deserved retirement in 2008, she happily served as the Cafeteria Manager. To the children who passed through those doors, she was more than just a manager – she truly was a "Nanny," to all she came to know and love.  The children were tickled by the nicknames she’d give them like "sugar plum" and "peanut,” and upon her retirement, the school threw her a celebratory parade and ceremony. Her memory book shares dozens of memories from the lives she touched and many noted how much they’ll miss her “smiling face, wistful charm, and beautiful accent.”

Dorothy's spirit for adventure never waned, as she traversed the globe in her younger years and later the United States with her family. In later years, she found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her garden became her sanctuary, where she nurtured vibrant blooms and trees, creating her own English garden she would sit and spend her days in. Her affinity for trees, birds, puzzles, and coloring filled her days with laughter and contentment, a testament to her vibrant spirit and unwavering zest for life.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bucker, her parents Geoffrey and Miriam Wilson, and her siblings Constance and Bruce Wilson.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Lynn (Tony) Beddoes, children Michael (Tracy) Bucker and Valerie (Rob) Anderson, granddaughters, Amanda Bucker, Ashley Anderson, Jillian (Ivan) Cohen, great-grandchildren, Cierra Gould, Kailie Gould, Matthew Gould, Dominic Gould, Hazel Cohen, and great-great-grandchild, Adalynn Gould.

A celebration of  Dorothy’s life will be held on June 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Paul R. Young Funeral Home, Mt. Healthy. All who knew and loved her are invited to join in honoring her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in honor of Dorothy Bucker’s legacy of compassion and generosity.
