Dawnen Quillen Thomas

Dawnen Quillen Thomas was born June 19, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He was the oldest of five siblings born to Ulicious and Lavette (Miller) Johnson.

He graduated from Talawanda High School in Oxford, OH. After completing high school, Dawnen enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 31, 1975.  He was honorably discharged on February 16, 1979.  

Understanding the the love of God and His grace and mercy, Dawnen loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

Traveling, listening to blues and Jazz, playing basketball and football were some of Dawnen’s favorite past times.  He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was always the life of the party and enjoyed a good time.  Dawnen will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, giving heart, life lessons and love for family and friends. He was a talker and never met a stranger.

Dawnen worked for the Williams Company for more than fifteen years as a computer operator. While working for Williams, he completed college courses at Tulsa Community College.  

After moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, he met Betty Harris. They fell in love and married on October 1, 1988. To this union, one beautiful daughter was born, Ja’nae Thomas.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Ulicious Johnson and mother, Lavette (Miller) Johnson.

Cherishing his precious memories his loving wife, Betty Janelle Thomas; daughter, Ja’nae Dawn Thomas both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; siblings, Jerry Tyler Thomas, Pamel (David) Thomas Grant, Richard Byron Thomas and Steven Eric Johnson; along with nieces and nephews Jason L. Thomas, Nicole (Brandon) Smith Byrd, Alisha (Kevin) Grant Thornberry and Rachel Grant all of Oxford, Ohio and Emma, Olivia and Tessa Johnson of Florida; four great-nieces, Jayela Thomas, Nevaeh Edwards, Alexis Thornberry and Joyceanna Gaines; three great-nephews, Izaiah Thomas, Xavier Thornberry and Marcus Byrd; and a host of cousins and lifelong friends.

A visitation for Dawnen will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Ogle & Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Oxford, Ohio from 11 am until time of funeral service at 12 pm. Burial at Woodside Cemetery will immediately follow.
