Betty was born on August 11, 1932 to Bessie (nee Morford) and Ferris Day in Connersville, Indiana. She is the beloved mother of Monica (Ed) Glaser, Joseph (Tracie) Macke and Lisa Shelley; cherished grandmother of Daniel Reece, Eddie (Natalie) Glaser, Matt (Lori) Shelley, Jacob (Missy) Shelley and great grandmother of Simon Reece, Nate Glaser, Gabbi Glaser, Hailey Shelley, Katie Shelley, Logan Shelley and Lilly Shelley; and dear sister of Robert (Marie) Fee, Sue Elliott, and Buelah Walter) Spurlock. Betty was also loved by many treasured friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Melvin Macke, her brother Irvin Day, and her parents.
Betty was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oxford and an active supporter of the Oxford Senior Center; her absence will be deeply felt at church and at the Senior Center. She was a valued employee of Miami University, working for several years in the bookstore at the Shriver Center.
In her free time, she became an avid world traveler. She ventured all over from Australia to Antarctica to Hawaii, but also loved traveling more locally to places special to her, like Gatlinburg. She also loved going on cruises with her family. More than anything she was devoted to her family. They will miss her at their weekly gathering they lovingly call the Wednesday Night Supper Club.
A visitation for Betty will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Oxford from 11 am until the time of service at 12 pm, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in Betty's memory can do so by donating to the Oxford Senior Center.
