Obituary

Penny was an intelligent, feisty, independent and caring woman. She was strong-willed and a dreamer, and she encouraged her 3 children to be the same. She loved music and art, and saw the beauty and wonder in nature and the world around her. She enjoyed camping, trail riding, and spending time outdoors – exploring, gardening and building beautiful landscapes from the rocks and plants she loved. She found joy in passing that love on to her beloved granddaughter, spending time playing in the creeks with clay and pointing out wildlife.

Penny had a true passion for horses, and was an avid equestrian. She was at her happiest on the back of a horse riding through the beautiful hills and creeks she loved so much.

She was a woman of incredible strength.  Even as she was battling metastatic breast cancer, she continued to provide for the daily caregiving needs of her husband, who experiences significant health complications due to advanced MS, putting the needs of others before her own, as she did throughout the entirety of her life.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 47 years, David Engel, her three children, Andrea Engel (Dawn), Joshua Engel (Alana) and Kelley Engel, and her cherished grandchild,  Anna Dixon. We pray she is at peace with no pain, no worries, and only joy.

Family will be holding a memorial for her in the spring when she will be laid to rest in the nature she loved.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Franklin County EMS at 608 East 7th Street, Brookville, IN 47012, or by contacting Tracey, the office secretary at 765-647-0234.
