Obituary

Matthew Robert "Matt" Gardiner, age 50, passed away on July 11, 2026, in Katy, Texas. Born on March 11, 1976, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Matt lived a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions.

Matt graduated from North College Hill High School in 1994 and pursued his love of engineering at Ohio University. He earned his degree in Civil Engineering in 1999 and embarked on a remarkable 27-year career as a civil engineer. Specializing in forensic engineering, Matt's expertise and determination led him to establish his own company, ICC/International Crane and Construction Forensics in Richmond, Texas. His work was a testament to his commitment to excellence in his field.

Beyond his professional achievements, Matt was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. He had an infectious laugh that could light up any room and was often described as the life of the party. His generosity and warmth were felt by all who knew him, and he was famous for giving the best bear hugs. Matt's interests were as dynamic as his personality. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and Muskie fishing. A racing enthusiast at heart, especially Indy car, he found joy in the thrill of the track. He also had a deep connection to the Houston Rodeo, where he was a pivotal member for many years. His involvement extended beyond personal enjoyment; he gave back to the community through organizations like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Houston and Ducks Unlimited.

Matt is survived by his loving parents, Jan and Jackie Gardiner; his brother Nate Gardiner and sister-in-law Lainey and his beloved Black Lab, Josey; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were like family to him across Ohio, Indiana and Texas. He was predeceased by his grandparents Luthea and Clark Gardiner and Avery and Florence Sage.

Matt's memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him. His generous spirit, fun-loving nature, and unwavering dedication to those he cared about leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.

Matt continued to share his life by being an organ donor and many lives were given hope for a better life. May Matt's legacy bring comfort to those who mourn him and inspire others to live with the same passion and kindness that defined him.
