Marge graduated from Capital University in 1942 and was hired as a high school teacher in Circleville, Ohio. She met Richard Mackey, her future husband, in a health education class at The Ohio State University. The two were married in 1947. Daughter Jeanne was born in 1950, followed by son Tom in 1955. The family moved to Oxford in 1957, when Dick accepted a teaching position in Miami University's Health and Physical Education department. Son David was born in 1959. Marge worked as a substitute teacher in the Talawanda School District in the 60s and 70s. She was a member of the Miami University Women's Club, Lutheran Church Women of Faith Lutheran Church, Talawanda Keynote Club, and the Oxford Society of Miniaturists--serving as president of each. She served on the boards of McCullough Hyde Hospital and Planned Parenthood. She was proud to be named Oxford's "Citizen of the Years" in 1977.
