Joseph D
Compton
Oct 30, 1942 — Aug 2, 2026
College Corner
Joseph D. Compton, 83, of College Corner, passed peacefully with his loving family by his side on the afternoon of August 2, 2026, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. Joseph was born October 30, 1942, in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of the late Earnest Compton Sr. and Magdaline (Flynn) Compton. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Joe went on to build a distinguished 30-plus-year career in telecommunications, retiring as a field engineer with NEC. Joe's life was one of service to his community. He devoted over three decades to the Village of College Corner, including serving as Mayor, and president of the College Corner Community Club. He also served as a Special Deputy for the Butler County Sheriff's Department. Joe was co-owner of M.C. Hobbies in Lindenwald, with his brother, where his lifelong passion for trains found a home — a passion he shared for years and was a current member of the Greater Cincinnati Modular Railroad Association. Joe also enjoyed woodworking, and was a member of College Corner United Methodist Church, where his faith guided him throughout his life. Above all, Joe cherished his family. He is survived by Judy, his devoted wife of 43 years; his children, Denise (Gary) Antonius, Melissa (Steven) Moore, and Deidra (Jeremy) Hopkins; and his grandchildren, Zachary Antonius, Amy Antonius, Andrew Moore, Rebecca Moore, and Grady Hopkins, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Earnest Compton Jr., and his sister Barbara Davis. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at College Corner United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at College Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations are being accepted for support of the West College Corner Volunteer Fire Department, 112 Union Street West College Corner, IN. Online condolences may be shared with the family on the Tribute Wall at www.paulyoungfuneralhome.com.
