Obituary

Alice Mae (Peo) Winterrod passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on January 12, 2024. She was 85. She was the daughter of Harry and Mary (Vandemark) Peo.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Collins Winterrod, three brothers Harold, Wilbur (Jim), and Richard, and a sister Dorothy (Peo) Kamradt. Alice was married to Frank for ten years. Alice is survived by Frank's sons Frank Allen and John David (Patti) and grandson John Collins. She felt very blessed to have had in her life her best friends Joe and Betty Marak and family.  She leaves cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her life was enriched by many friends and neighbors who crossed her path.

Alice was born on April 16, 1938, in Michigan City, Indiana. Alice came to Oxford at age 18 to work as a secretary at Miami University where she worked until her retirement in 1993. She spent most of those years in the geology department but also worked in the math department and at King Library.

No matter where she lived, a home was important to her. She enjoyed fixing up a place and decorating, so everyone who came to her home felt welcomed.  She especially enjoyed working in the yard. The spring of the year was her favorite season because it seemed that everything started living again and looked so clean and cheerful.  Alice loved Christmas, not only for its spiritual meaning, but it was a time for her to try her hand at making the home look festive. For several years Alice helped to deliver Meals on Wheels to those who were unable to prepare their meals.  She attended many church denominations throughout her lifetime, but Oxford Bible Fellowship, which she helped start, became the church home where she heard the Word of God and accepted what was written in the Bible. It was a privilege for her to serve in many needed capacities in the church.  She was willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need with kindness and generosity.

A celebration of Alice's life will be held on Monday, January 22, at noon at Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Oxford, Ohio, with a friendship gathering for thirty minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond, Indiana. The service will be conducted by Reverend Winston Clark.

A special thanks to Laura and the caring staff at Westover Retirement Community and for the kind support of Hospice of Cincinnati.
