Alan was born to Irene (nee Hickman) Skinner and Arthur Holmes in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 13, 1951. Beloved husband of Joan Holmes; devoted father of Scott (Cynthia) Holmes and Brandi (Yasser Elkilani) Holmes; cherished grandfather of Logan Holmes, Saif Elkilani, Laila Elkilani, Jenna Elkilani and Yousef Elkilani; dear brother of the late Sharon Poppe and survived by brother-in-law Stephen Poppe.

Alan proudly served in the United States Navy for 26 years, serving in the Gulf War and two tours in the Vietnam War. He married Joan Schultes on December 27, 1969 and together they raised their two children, Scott and Brandi. Alan worked as an electrician for many years and often took his children on side jobs; teaching them the importance of responsibility and providing for your family all while building a diverse set of skills. These skills, sense of responsibility and work ethic will continue to live on in his children and grandchildren. Alan loved to travel but more than anything he
enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He loved being involved in his kids' and grandkids' sports both coaching and spectating. He loved spending weekends away playing on the lake, boating and challenging kids, grandkids and friends to dare to hold on and to not be tossed, skipping across the lake at full speed. He was full of life and always brought the fun and laughter to any gathering. He will be deeply missed.

A Memorial service will be held on March 10, 2024 at 2pm, at St. Paul Community of Faith, 5312 Old Blue Rock Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45247.
