Joan Lindquist Obituary

Joan Marsha (Hendrickson) Lindquist of Oxford Ohio passed away peacefully on Christmas evening December 25th, 2019 with family by her side. Joan was born in Freeborn Minnesota to Joyce and Edward Hendrickson of Albert Lea Minnesota.

A kind and caring soul Joan touched all those who came in contact with her. Whether just once or those that knew her for her 67 years, her grace, compassion, and sincere kindness will be greatly missed.

Upon graduating from Freeborn High School, Mn she attended Bethany Lutheran College, Mn and then began her lifelong path of compassion when she graduated from nursing school in 1973. As a nurse, she gave care to patients and families who needed it the most, including those in Alzheimer’s and ALS Hospice care.

While at Bethany she met her life partner and husband Dean Lindquist (of Bloomington Minnesota). It took multiple dates and even more convincing, but both knew they would spend the rest of their 48 years of marriage together. She balanced her career as a nurse while raising a family across 6 states and 14 moves. Her three children also kept her busy with sports and other extra circular actives.

The family enjoyed endless travel adventures including London, Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico together and with other friends and family members.

Aside from travel, Joan loved music especially R&B as well as the outdoors, where she craved the sun and being in nature. As a farm girl at heart, she loved to be outside whenever possible to enjoy her yard and be around water.

But the thing she loved and enjoyed the most was her grandchildren. With eight grandsons she was always active running around and playing with Legos. She never missed their birthdays and loved nothing more than to cuddle with them watching a movie.

Later in life, Joan was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and taught us all how to be a fighter. She survived a bone marrow transplant and multiple rounds of chemotherapy with the grace and poise few can imagine. Even when diagnosed with another type of cancer called MDS Leukemia, the conversations were never about Joan but rather others and her family.  Her selfless love towards others will be missed daily and taught us all to appreciate each day with your family and friends. Joan was an active member of Oxford PEO, Antique Group, and Birthday organization/club.

Joan will be deeply missed by her loving husband Harold Dean Lindquist, their daughter Heidi Salzarulo (Son in law Dr. Peter Salzarulo and grandsons William and Samuel) who live in Oxford Ohio. Son Josh Lindquist (Grandsons Michael, Andrew, Christopher, and Benjamin) who lives in Madison, Wisconsin. Son Jacob Lindquist (Daughter-in-law Michelle Lindquist and grandsons Brooks and Barrett) who live in San Diego, California. Joan enriched the lives of all those around her and will be greatly missed. She will be remembered and loved forever by so many.
