Margaret Ellen Bueschel, of Oxford, Ohio died Tuesday March 26th after a strong and courageous struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She is beloved by many colleagues, friends and students throughout her long and distinguished career as a school superintendent and professor of educational leadership at Miami University. She is survived by her husband Rev. Bruce B. Bueschel of Oxford, her brother Robert Van Pelt, and her sister Elizabeth Ann Judge of Richmond, Indiana as well as by her nieces Lori Juerling (John),Kelly Bomba (Matt), Kit Judge (Bruce), Leslie Holbrook (Howard), Christy Spair (Joe), Dr.
Katie Kabaker (Adam), Jennifer Bueschel, and by her nephews Bo Van Pelt (Carrie), Jay Judge (Katie), Greg Asbury (Sharon), Gabriel (Lina), Brian Bueschel USMC, Geoff Bueschel USMC, by many grand nieces and nephews, by her sister-in-law Barbara Schultz (Waldemar), by her sister-in-law Sandra Connell, by her brother-in-law Thomas (Erin) Bueschel and she is missed by many good friends, and especially by Nelda McCabe (Harry) and Jan Henry (Ron). Dr. Bueschel received her undergraduate degree from Ball State University and her Masterís degree and Ph.D. in educational leadership from Miami University. Her distinguished career in education began as an elementary teacher in lndiana and later in Ohio. For almost two decades, she provided exemplary leadership as a school Superintendent in Union County Schools in Liberty, Indiana, Stoneham, Massachusetts, and Rockford, Illinois. Under her leadership, the Stoneham School District achieved the status as a school system in the top 20% of public school systems in the country and passed a bond levy to build four new state of the art elementary schools-an unheard of accomplishment in the state. When she retired from the Stoneham system, the community gratefully recognized her visionary leadership. In concluding her career, she returned to the Miami University faculty to teach future school leaders. Graduate students noted that she was a gifted, passionate teacher who was able to combine both theory and practice in meaningful ways. Ellen was a visionary and strong leader, a gifted teacher, a trusted counselor and friend. She was an Elder in the Oxford Presbyterian Church, and an active citizen in the community, including the League of Women Voters and Church Women United.
Visitation by friends is Friday at Ogle and Young Funeral Home in Oxford 5-8 p.m., and a Service in Celebration of her Life will be held at Oxford Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday March 30th.
